Around 1932, after the recovery from the Great Kanto Earthquake, a shopping street-like townscape began to form, and the Sanwakai was established in Shimmachi 2-chome and Fukazawa 4-chome.
Overcoming the post-war chaos, the Sanwakai was dissolved in November 1950, and in April 1951, stores such as "Marushin Meat," "Ninomiya Electric," "Fujiya," and "Banpo" became the center of the newly formed "Sakurashinmachi Shopping Association."
With its incorporation in 1971, it was renamed to the current "Sakurashinmachi Shopping Street Promotion Association."
